BRIEF: The aim of the eleven artists is to create a textile and mixed-media travelling exhibition. The initial inspiration was the map of the Western Hemisphere embroidered by Elizabeth Cook (c.1800) that shows the voyages of her husband James Cook currently housed at the Australian National Maritime Museum, Sydney. Elizabeth Cook’s map provided a starting point from which the concept of ‘map’ can be understood and interpreted in both concrete and abstract ways. Maps can be about many things; geography, history, geology, personal space, migration, movement, memory, travel, genealogy.

Strathfield opening

Despite the horrid weather, we had a very good opening at the McGlade Gallery at Catholic University in Strathfield this afternoon. There was heaps of food and wine. The speeches by Diana Thomas and Kirry Toose were excellent. And the artwork was duly admired.
Kirry quoted Guillame Apollinaire

“Come to the edge.
                           We can't. We're afraid.
Come to the edge
                           We can't. We will fall!
Come to the edge.
      And they came.
             And he pushed them.
                      And they flew.”

Shoalhaven Art Centre opening

Today our show opened in Nowra. Two other exhibitions opened as well ensuring a good crowd.

Bill Collins who was kind enough to open our exhibition, entertained the crowd and hopes that somebody will devise a show with all the wonderful emblems used by LA studios in a Golden Years of Holloywood retrospective.

We were pleased with the room and the expert hanging by the Shoalhaven Art Centre team.
